About Me

Hi, I’m Sarah, founder of In The Moment Counselling and BACP registered practitioner offering private counselling to adults in Gosforth, Newcastle Upon Tyne and online across the UK.

With over 28 years of experience in healthcare, I bring a strong understanding of both physical and emotional health, and a genuine commitment to supporting doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals through anxiety, stress, loss, grief and life transitions.

My background in healthcare

My counselling career began following 17 years as an NHS NMC Registered Nurse, where I saw firsthand how stress, illness, and life events deeply affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, and confidence.

The experience of a busy, high-pressured environment taught me that overwhelm, anxiety, expectations, and a need to keep going often means our own needs go unnoticed, or they just get added to the ever growing to do list.

This experience shaped the calm, grounded and compassionate approach I bring to therapy sessions today.

My personal experience of grief and loss

My decision to retrain as a Counsellor was born from my own journey through counselling after losing a family member unexpectedly.

I understand how shock and loss can change everything in an instant; the exhaustion, intense emotions, and anxiety that can surface while you are still trying to function day to day. Grief can feel isolating and unsettling, even when you are surrounded by people who care.

Having experienced the benefits of counselling myself, I know the value of having a safe, confidential space to talk openly, reflect, and begin to heal. With the right support, it is possible to process loss, rebuild your sense of self, and move forward in a way that feels meaningful and manageable.

My approach to counselling

To you, I offer compassion, understanding and an empathetic approach on your therapy journey. I provide the confidential space you are looking for to help you gently unpick and understand what is happening for you and help you feel reconnected to the version of yourself that you feel has been lost somewhere along the way.

Whether you are seeking support for grief, anxiety and stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, or simply feeling stuck, we will work at a pace that feels manageable for you. No expectations, no pressure.

My aim is to help you reconnect with your authentic self and live in a way that aligns with your values, and boundaries, without judgement from others or yourself.

If you are looking for counselling in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, or would like to explore online therapy in the UK, I am here when you are ready.
