Frequently Asked Questions

What options do I have for the session? At In The Moment Counselling, I offer private counselling for adults. My therapy room is situated in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, with easy access from Jesmond, Kenton, Great Park and surrounding areas aswell as online across the UK via Teams.

What is the fee for a therapy session? Sessions are £50. I offer concessions for student counsellors and NHS staff. I always aim to make therapy affordable. Please ask and we can discuss this.

How long is the session? Sessions are 1 hour long with the choice to extend to 90 minutes in advance should we feel more time is needed. I offer flexible counselling sessions to suit individual needs. The focus is on creating a pace and structure that feels helpful and manageable for you.

How often should I attend sessions? Initially I recommend weekly sessions as this helps to keep momentum, build trust and safety, and gives you a chance to reflect on your work and identify the progress you are making. Of course, as sessions progress, we can discuss a manageable plan for you moving forward.

What can I expect at the first session? Your first session is usually about building the therapeutic relationship, this involves getting to know each other, building trust, so you feel safe to share what has been happening for you. We will discuss your expectations of counselling, what you would like to achieve from your sessions, and what has brought you here now. There is never an expectation for you to share anything you are not ready to share at any point. The sessions are yours, to work through your needs at your pace, guided by you. You are in full control of how the session goes and you can stop at any time if you don’t feel comfortable.

What can I talk about in my sessions? You can bring whatever feels important to you, even if it feels difficult to explain. You don’t need a clear goal to begin. Many people seek counselling when life feels overwhelming, confusing, or emotionally heavy. You might be navigating a life transition, coping with family pressures, struggling with confidence, or noticing patterns in relationships that keep repeating. You may have a sense something just isn’t quite right. Sometimes we begin with a specific issue. Other times, we begin by paying attention to what feels present in the moment. I offer a calm, reflective space to slow down, explore your thoughts and emotions, and develop greater self-understanding. If you’re wondering whether counselling might be right for you, you are welcome to get in touch for an initial conversation.
